Open Energy Research

The Open Energy Database (OPENED) is an initiative of the Energy Research Centre at the University of Cape Town aimed at providing South African energy and associated data for research and analysis. The initiative is kindly funded by the South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI) of the South African National Department of Energy (DOE).

Netgen was tasked with developing he project to be able to easily import data and information and classify it easily in a single database. The aim is that searches can be conducted very quickly on the database and then narrowed down so that all relevant information is displayed. The system has started with around 700 document archives and will be growing very quickly. There are a number of unique items in this system as it imports from EndNote and also can accept data from other sources readily and then catalogue this in a single location.
