Varsity College Careers Day

On 11 September 2019, Varsity College hosted their annual Careers Day, and Netgen was one of the companies selected to attend the day at their Rondebosch campus. We took some of our dynamic digital marketers and custom software developers along to chat to students about a future in the IT industry. We spoke to them about the different types of work within a company like Netgen, such as custom software development, front-end WordPress websites, SEO and digital marketing.

What makes a career day like this so vital? It encourages students to explore careers they might be interested in and learn more about the real-world dynamics of those careers. They’ll also get to grips with just how important and relevant a college degree actually is. A career day also provides students with tangible and first-hand experiences that creates a connection between their current academic pursuits and future professional endeavours.

On a personal note, we feel that this Career Day provides a platform to develop meaningful and personal connections between students and Netgen. Using this as a platform could help bring future new employees to our company and provide them with real work experience. Netgen also offers a great internship for those who are looking to gain experience in the industry. This would give students a step up by getting practical experience in .NET and SQL, with technology stack including: C# .Net, SOAP/WCF/REST/JSON services, SQL (MYSQL and MS-SQL), JavaScript/ JQuery, HTML5, CSS3/Bootstrap and TFS.

We firmly believe that it is our social responsibility to give the youth of today a chance to experience work life in the real world through our internship programme. This is a great way of giving back to the community and often helps those studying or wanting to study IT-related degrees or courses, with getting a job in the future. These actions are definitely part of our mission, vision and values.

Overall, Career Day at Varsity College was a big success for us, with plenty of IT students showing interest in what we had to offer. We expect to see an influx of CVs coming our way at the end of the year as many students took flyers and business cards.
